I created a database a while back with a main report comprised of subreports. The database has been converted from Access 97 to Access 2002. I'm looking at the main report now in Design mode and for the life of me I can't figure out how I inserted subreports, nor am I able to see the subreports themselves.

They are in the Detail Section. What I see is a page break symbol, a header that I created for the subreport with a text box, and then a horizontal scroll bar. I am able to somehow drag the subreport from behind the scroll bar vertically up a bit, but there isn't much space to work with.

I'm quite confused by this at the moment. I'm sure there's a simple solution, but would you believe that the word "subreport" doesn't appear in the Access 2002 answer wizard nor index?

thx!

I see the problem, I opened up the old version in Access 97. The subreports are covered by these horizontal scroll bars. How do I get rid of the scroll bars?

thx!

*bump*

This is a very annoying problem. Has anyone seen this or figured out how to turn off the detail?

thx!

Michael Kaplan has a utility at that might help. It adds back in the functionality we grew to love in Access 97 and earlier. While you are there at his site, you might want to also download his TSI Expression which adds the Expression builder back in to Modules.

They took out the expression builder? Man... Voice of the customer, huh? lol

Thanks!

thx!

The expression builder went out when the VBA became its own "application window". I am not sure why they couldn't have made sure it was added back in since I believe Michael Kaplan might be working for MS.

There are lots of great utilities. Other than Michael's tools, you might want to look at MZ-Tools at If you have the need and can spare some dollars, the FMS utilities at are worth every penny.

Have you used the 'Subforminator'? Is it pretty solid? I'm wary of introducing foreign code here at work...

thx!

The Add-In has worked flawlessly in my use of Access 2000 and 2002. It doesn't seem to bother mdbs that I have distributed to PCs that didn't have the add-in loaded. I wouldn't create apps without a few of these tools.

dhookom,

You are correct Kaplan does or has worked for Microsoft at on point in time.

I don't understand all the changes that they made to the tools that developers use either but I have a feeling the developers didn't have a choice.

MS tends to be new feature driven at the expense of leaving in the things that work.

Just my two cents as an Access "hack" since version 1.0.

:)

Since I am an Access MVP, I get a bit of a look inside once in a while. The big changes I think were due to separating Access from the VBA to bring it more in line with other Office products.

I've only been using Access since 1.1 so you have me beat!

Duane,

Be glad that you did not see 1.0 be very, very glad.

*LOL*

I have heard it suggested that every other version has been stable. I know that '95 was horrible. I really liked 2.0 and still like 97.
