I am writing a connection object to connect data on our database server. It just working fine. However when I put this connection object on other server out of our domain, for example, a public web hosting server. The connection does not work any more, even though I used the IP address as server name. Do you know why. It may be due to the security system in my server. Is that right?

thanks

If you are using MSSQL Server, have you tried using Linked Servers found under Security in Enterprise Manager?

I know that it allows you to link databases on different servers on the same network. I've never tried to link to a database on a different network.

Good luck.

there was a thread i responded to not too long ago very similar to this, you're welcome to search for it, but you can use SQL connections, IP referenced logins to other SQL db's, named pipe connections, or a VPN to all share data
