How ta save XHTML file?

Hi folks!

I just don't understand one simle thing - what extension should XHTML file have???

I thought that it should be file_name.xhtml. But when I wanted to preview my .xhtml file on a local PC I saw the code in browser (IE 6.0) window but not the whole page... So I saved it with .htm extension (as usual) and it looked OK.

So I'm a bit confused... Any thoughts? Good Luck! :)
