ok, scratch Outlook Express, i figured it out.

Provided the machine hasn't written over the sectors you could try a few tools to recover them...

However, if the machine has been writing over those sectors with new data, you're likely not going to recover much and if you do the data will likely be corrupted.

If its an issue of an account which pulls mails from a mail server, chances are copies of those messages are kept. Open Outlook and go to tools/E-mail accounts click next, select the account in question go to more settings/advanced and check if the "Leave a copy of the messages on the server" is selected. If it is, you could recreate that account on another machine and retrieve some of the emails for that account.

typical undelete/recover apps do not work for Outlook emails.

the "leave a copy on the server" is intentionally not selected!

i found that i can use a hex-editor to recover items from the "deleted items folder".

i think i also found the symbol for the beginning of the file so i can possibly use it as a search criteria.

not perfect if some of the bytes are overwritten but never the less i can recover more than i expected.

now still looking @ Outlook help.

2ffat,
