how put bike treadmarks through a text

want it to look like the text has been run over/through by a bike. is promo for a race. want to do the same with shoe marks to represent the run part of race. thanks a ton!

yes, figured out actually. found pic online of shoe print and bike treadmarks. live traced, tweaked 'till like wanted, grouped and turned into a symbol and then placed on words how wanted.

didn't acheive exact effect looking for (going through words) but what ended up with looks good too.

...the pathfinder palette has options to allow you to texture outlined text with a shape above it...
