How proxy server work?

Hi I'm using Microsoft® Proxy Server 2.0. I'm new to proxy server.

I need to be able to access internet from my PC. I have a proxy server with 2 network card. First card connect to a hub and hub connect router. Second card connect to another hub and my PC.

Can i know why i cannot access internet with this setting?

PC -> Hub ->Card 1

Card 2 -> Hub ->router

Card 1 and card 2 have different subnet. I can ping Card 1 and card 2 from my PC but cannot ping my router.

I'm using valid IP.

Thanks for any reply.
