A client asked me to set up 11 blank pages. She would like to create the content herself. How much do you charge for such a silly exercise? Should I just do it for free and just have her pay for the hosting? I mean, all I'm doing is setting up the site, naming the pages and uploading them! Any suggestions?

LOL, that is a silly assingement...do you know the person?? Personaly, i'd just have her pay all expenses incurred...know what I mean?? I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

In other words, zero expenses so do it for free?

Dont do anything for free,

If you do then people put no value on your work.

Time spent * £30 per hour + expenses + a bit for a pint of Guinness as its friday :-) Live long and make your kids suffer..

Definately charge something, or barter as I do once in a while. I got $1000 of custom framing for my artwork in exchange for a site that took me a little over 6 hours to throw together... not a bad trade. A year later, I get $100 for maintaining the same site (which involves paying the host company with his credit card number on renewal)

Also if you do it for free, you may get wrangled into repairing any damage she causes for the same price you charged to create the pages... When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Actualy now that I think about it, I like viol8ion's idea alot better...lol I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

Never do anything for free... that is my motto. People will assume that your services and expertise have no value. Even if you do it for a pint o' Guinness (my brew of choice, Cheech) you need to assign a value to not only your time but your experience. Just my opinion. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.

Can anyone suggest a concrete amount? 10? 25? 50?

Flasher, that depends on you. Personally I tell everyone my rates are US$50/hour and then will cut back to $25/hour "as a special favor to you". For barter, I try to figure out how much I would pay for what they want to trade, and go from there. Only you know what you are worth. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
