hi all,
i'm new to tsm.
an external company has installed TSM on our server.
the disk (tape also)storage pools are (windows, linux, aix).
Is this partition usefull or is better to have only one stg-pool or is another partion cleverer (client1-5, client6-10, ...).
thank's

it's really up to you...

if you want to separate data between OS you can create a storage pool each OS

or you can create a stg pool for each kind of data (files, mail, db,...)

if you have critical server, you can choose to put its data on a specific stgpool to get faster restore

with high space tape, if you create to many stgpool you will lose of lot a tape and slots in your library

I'd recommend following the old KISS saying. Keep it simple stupid. Fewer is better. Don't create more complexity then you need. Don't create storage pools, management classes, domains, etc unless you can identify a reason for doing so.

Now that being said, it's fairly common for a lot of companies to seperate data by stgpool based on type of data (files, db's, mail, etc) as the previous poster suggested. You can always move the data around though if you identify the need to seperate data in the future into different stgpools so don't get too wrapped up in that today if you can't think of a reason to do so.
