Hello,

I've just replaced my motherboard, the first I've ever attempted. As a complete noob to this, I'm obviously worried about CPU heat.

I applied some Arctic Silver between the heatsink and CPU, and now I'm running it idle watching the CPU heat from the BIOS. It's a P4 2.8 running at about 40 C.

Is it possible for the CPU temp to be low but the CPU will still fry because of air pockets? Or can I trust that the hardware monitor is accurate and I can relax?

There are no 'airpockets in the bios temp circuit (hopefully) the temp sensor is either in the chip or in the socket. there is nothing you can do there. If you followed the installation instructions for the srctic silver and got the heatsink on the correct way you have done all you can. (except get a bigger heatsink)

Thanks. The CPU is running 10 C cooler than it was yesterday... I'm supposing it's because the Artic Silver is settling in now.

Bios is normally pretty accurate but there seems to have been quite a few motherboards reporting wrong temps recently.
Certainly worth checking to see if you have the latest bios.
