Hi

My old Laptop has no Floppy drive and I desperatly want to format and reinstall but I think I will need a bootable CDROM.

I tried burning a win98 boot disk to a CD-R but that didn't work.

any ideas?

Check to see if you have the .cab files on the harddisk already, if so put them into a new folder eg c:\wincabs , boot to dosmode and delete all other folders and files then from wincabs folder run setup. - formatting only makes deleted files invisible by altering 1 byte of data, they are all technically still there so if you manually delete all folders, you have done the same job. ***************************************
Party on, dudes!

Thanks Karver, That looks like a good plan. Will that clean the registry and stuff?

Yes it will if you delete:
C:\program files
C:\windows

Hope this Helps

Since you say OLD laptop, I will just remind you that your hardware has to support booting from cd. if it doesnt support that you cannot do it. and karver is offering good advice since youll probably not be able to boot from a cd.

If you do support booting from cd you can make on in ezcdcreator or nero.. it is a option when you are burning your data cd.

I dont think it will support a bootable Cd. A few months ago the external FDD stopped working and after that the CDROM stopped working. I had to install a DOS driver to get the CDROM working again. Now it only recognises 8 letter file names. If only I could get my hands on a WIN98 upgrade CD it might solve all my problems.

I have a WIN98 full pack and a WIN2K pro upgrade but neither is suitable for this beast. 166Mhz 32MB

Thanks for all the advice, I think I'll try Karvers advice.
