How does one create additional bands in an unbound MSHFlexGrid?

I don't believe that you do. The documentation says

Bands Property

This property is read-only. The number of Recordsets in the hierarchy of Recordsets with which the control is bound defines the value.

You were right. However I came across a topic in MSDN "Using the Microsoft Hierarchical FlexGrid Control\...\Displaying an Outline with Headings using the Hierarchical FlexGrid" that seems to imply it can be done manually. Is there anyone experienced in this procedure or who can throw some more light on it? One problem I can see right away is how to get that + and - in a box icons that the grid uses in hierarchical bound mode.
