I have an epson printer installed on an endusers machine. I have enabled FilePrint Sharing and have set the printer to share. When a user tries to use it they have to connect using the persons username and password. Is it possible to make it available to anyone without requiring them to log on with a username and password.

Is your network peer-to-peer? Doesn't matter, I guess. In the Properties for the printer, go to the Security tab and make sure that Everyone has Print rights. That ought to do it. Of course, that's the default permission, so I don't know why it's not already set.

We run a peer to peer network but the problem is in My Network places you see the PC's and you double click on the one which has the printer attached but it then asks for a username and password and you have to enter the persons whos machine has the printer attached but even after you have installed it you then have to enter the username and password once you have logged out.

On the machine that you are trying to add the printer to, you need to create a new local port. The information that you enter for the printer name is the UNC path to the printer <\\computername\printersharename> That should do it as long as it is shared properly.

Thanks for the advice but I have resolved it. The problem was my machine are current;y running on a workgroup not a domain meaning the only users who can use her machine are the ones listed in her users. So I added the relevant people and it now works.
