I upgraded a computer from NT4.0 to W2K(workstation) and this person had 50+ contacts saved in Outlook in her profile which is suppose to be kept on our Backoffice server running Exchange 5.5. Does anyone know how to find her "Contacts" that somehow seem to be missing? I upgraded another machine the same way and had no problems.

Were her contacts possibly in a Personal.pst file instead of the server based .pst file? I'd run a search on her local machine for a .pst file that hasn't been imported.

I did a search on her local machine and there are no .pst files. I have been told that her contacts should stay with her profile on the server but I don't know how to look for it. Thanks for the response CJTyo!

When you upgraded her did all her old emails/sent messages, etc. show up? It's JUST the contacts that she is missing?

Yes that is correct. Her emails showed up but her contacts were gone.

Under the Tools>Services>Services Tab in Outlook you loaded her Outlook Address Book?

And under the Addressing Tab she has the drop down menu's set to Global on the top and Contacts on the bottom? And in the list box both Global and Contacts are listed with Contacts first?

Yes everything is exactly as you asked.

Does the Properties for Contacts (on the Addressing Tab) say Mailbox - username? That indicates whether or not it's on the Exchange Server.

Under properties for Contacts(on the Addressing Tab) it says:

Information: Personal Folders

Contact Folder: Contacts

Okay, the Information: should say Mailbox - username to be pointing to the Exchange Server.

On the Addressing Tab, click ADD and see if you can find the Contacts with the Information: Mailbox - username Property (there should be a scrolling list, click on Contacts and click the Properties box to check where it's located).

Make sure under the Services Tab that the Outlook Address Book properties points to Contacts: Mailbox - username.

It sounds like her Contacts folder is pointing somewhere else instead of to her Exchange Contacts.

Under the services tab the properties for Outlook Address Book say: Contacts: Personal Folders

On the Addressing Tab when I click Add, there is no nothing to scroll to that says Mailbox - username

I appreciate all the help. I think we may be getting closer but not quite there yet.

The Addressing Tab Add would have Contacts (probably near the bottom) and check the Properties to see if it's Personal Folders or Mailbox - username.

If it doesn't, see if she has Contacts set up on the Exchange side.

Where do you check to see if she has Contacts set up on the Exchange side? The properties under Contacts say Personal Folders and not Mailbox - username.

You'd have to go to the Exchange Administrator and check it out on the actual Exchange Server.

You've checked everything in Outlook I can think of to check and it looks like there needs to be an adjustment on the Exchange side of where her Contacts points to (or an addition of a Contacts file maybe).

I don't have access to an Exchange Server here at work and can't recall off-hand what settings you'd want to look at, but your Exchange Administrator should know right off.

I am unfortunately the Exchange Admin and I have looked in Exchange for any information about Contacts as far as where it points to that is and I can't find anything. Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.

I'll check the settings in my Exchange Server at home tonight and email tonight or tomorrow if I can come up with things to look at. I'm too visual, I have to be able to see it to explain it! :)

I think that if the contacts are pointed to personal folders instead of mailbox-username, you are only going to be able to retrieve them if you have them exported to a .pst file. Here at work if you set up a profile you just select exchange server then you enter the name of the server and the username and as long as you only select exchange instead of personal everything they do will be saved to server. If it is pointed to personal you will have to export before removing their profile to a .pst file and then after you set up their profile on another PC you would import the .pst file to the mailbox-username so that all will copy onto the exchange side.
