I just setup a Win 2000 domain on my home network. I've been using 2000 pro on my workstation and want to log into the network using the same login I've been using so I don't have to recreate my profile etc.

Is there a way to migrate my local profile to the domain? Or, is there a way to use a different domain login but still use my existing local profile settings? Thanks for your help.

Well, the "easy" way is to: Right-click My Computer-> Properties-> User Profiles-> Select the existing profile (make sure you have logged onto your Domain profile at least once) and choose "Copy To", then Browse to your new profile. This has worked for other members here, but not for me. What I did was to copy the Docs and Settings Folders for desktop, etc then My Favorites and make a .pst backup of the Email and restore it to the new profile. Then thru the Local Users and Groups snap-in, disable the local user profile. I got teh Explorer.exe error when I tried the correct way... Matt Wray

HI.

Before you copy your profile, you should better empty the Temporary Internet Files, and the %TEMP% folder.

Moving large files from "My Documents" and "Desktop" to a normal folder on the disk (not in the profile) can also save you some time and disk space.

When you "Copy To..." your user profile as suggested here, you should also set the permitted to use to "Everyone".
