How do you make images 3D looking?

There is Effect>3D>Extrude and Bevel but most people consider the 3D effects in Illustrator pretty "lame" ![[wink]](/data/assets/smilies/wink.gif "[wink] [wink]")
You might also want to explore some of the graphic styles (under Window).
You can also make your own 3 D look by using layers and gradients. There are some tutorials on this at the Adobe site.
