One of my clients has a G3i or si (can't remember which one) that for unknown reasons doesn't have a remote maintenance line. I'd like to get one set up using a DID extension, but I can't find any documentation about setting this up in the support.avaya site. Does anyone have instructions they can share? Thanks. Phonia

You can't use a DID. It has to be a CO line. Avaya should have set this up when they did the initial install. Does your client have a maintainence agreement? I don't see how they could if Avaya can't dial in.

I'm pretty sure that you can use a POTS line, CO trunk, OR a DID, only it's recommended that you use an outside line because if your system goes down you're out of luck.

No, my client does not have manintenance with Avaya. I'm sure that at some point this was in fact set up, but I'm trying to figure out how to re-install it and to that end I need instructions. Phonia

The INADS line is connected to the Violet/Slate pair of the AUX cable on the PPN.

BE-YOU-TEE-FUL. I will try that next time I'm out. Any special programming (beyond the analog port) that I should do as well? Phonia

No, programming is not required. You just connect a loop-start POTS line (preferred) or an analog DID extension from the switch to the AUX cable.

First find your AUX cable. Most likely it is the first one terminated. Connect the line to the 25 pair (violet/slate).
You can use a DID it just that Avaya prefers a POTS line. If they are not involve, oh well.

Okay, I've connected my DID extension to the violet/slate pair, but still get ring no answer. Any other possibilities for programming I've missed? Phonia

Look on the back of your cabinet and find the "AUX" cable. Do not try and tone this cable. On the last pair (25) is where the modem connection is. This is true for G3si and G3r Definity switches. Make sure you have dial tone on the line you are connecting. You can dial the number and short the x-connect.

There's an AUX 110 block on my wall field, and I'm punched down to pair 25 from port 1A0411, an analog port. This should do it, from what I'm reading here.. but I get RNA.

When you say "dial the modem and short the crossconnect" what exactly are you referring to? Phonia

Phonia, type the following and check to see if
"Customer Access to INADS Port" is set to "Y"

display system-parameters maintenance

Good luck!

I'll be sure to do that next time I'm out, but even if it's set to "no" I should still get modem handshake (because Avaya would have to be able to get in even if the customer weren't allowed), yes? Or do you believe that it would block non-Avaya dialup altogether somehow?

Keep in mind that this is an R6 or so and doesn't have ASG or any of the more spiffy security options. Phonia

This may sound like a simmple question what does the acronym inads stand for?
