i have had ongoing issues with managing contacts, it seems that there is no easy way to do this or hand over controal over to users.

we currently have 3 to 4 clients with over 100 contacts in each. we could add these as contacts within exchange but this takes alot of time from the IT team, and should the helpdesk realy manage contacts? i dont think so.

we are now expermenting with public folders, migrated all contacts over to there and now allow each team to manage there own contacts however by default it will not show these in the outlook address list, and you cant use ctrl+k to search.

both options work, but not very well!

What do you lot do to manage your contacts? has any one come up with a better way to do this?

Right click on the contact group, click on properties, click on Outlook Address book, put a check in Show this Folder as an e-mail address book. Then create a new email, click on the TO, select the contact group from the drop down menu in Show names from box. And no, I don't think IT should be responsible for that. I have one customer (only 3 employees with 10 000 contacts)... Impossible to manage !

We do the same as akwong. We have about 2000 contacts in a public folder shared by over 30 people. Everyone adds and amends these addresses so we have an up to date contact list for everyone.

I make sure that when I set up a new user I add the shared folder as a public folder favourite and make sure it is configured as an Outlook Address Book.

As a backup I export to PST on a weekly basis in case someone deletes an important address.

yes that seems to be the best solution only down side to it is they cant type the name in and press ctrl+k.

neither are perfect, but public folders seem to be the way to go!
