OK, I'm sure this is a stupid question, but I got the SUS server software to work, synchronized the server, it download a ton of patches (English updates only), I approved a few of them, etc.

Now, what do I do to tell my XP Pro clients to point to my local SUS server for updates instead of going to the normal Windows Updates?

My clients all have SP1 on them, so I read that they didn't need this other piece of software on them, but not sure what to do now.

I saw somewhere where there was a bunch of registry entries you had to make on the clients, is this correct?

Please help.

-Thanks!

you need to add the .adm (group policy template file) inot the group policy that controls your clients. With that done you will find the group policy settings needed to get your clients looking at your SUS server

I installed SUS a month ago in 3 different school districts, and got it working great.

Initially, after you install SUS, and add the wuau.adm file to your administratve templates, it WILL take anywhere's between 17-22 hours for the client to detect that the upates are even available. Make sure you set a time for the clients to retrieve the updates and then have them look for them even if they've missed an update time due to a powerdown or a user logged in or whatever reason. I have my clients set to retrieve 1 minute after they have detected that they've missed the update. Works out really well.

Once you add the .adm file, no registry changes need to be made through regedit or regedt32. The GP will change the Registry accordingly after the .adm file is added and you modify the settings.

Hope this helps
