How do you get Access 97 to read barcodes

My company is wanting to simplify data entry of returned parts, and create generic barcodes for part numbers, project numbers, etc., and then we would type in the part serial number. We have a program that will generate pages of barcodes in the, I believe, 039 format. I am using barcodes for years in Access and we use a Keyboard Wedge barcode scanner.<br><br>So if you open your table or form and normally key something in then put the cursor there and pull the trigger on the scanner it will put the info in there too.<br>If you want to look something up then create an unbound text box on a form and in the After update event put VBA code to do something.<br>Like create a new record or what ever.<br><br> <p>DougP<br><a href=mailto: dposton@universal1.com> dposton@universal1.com</a><br><a href= > </a><br> Ask me how Bar-codes can help you be more productive.

lgvelez,<br>I'd recommend using a serial port laser scanner rather than the keybord ones, which are often ccd devices--ccd is not as good as laser when it comes to reading barcodes, especially if there is a lot of glare in the room.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also, the serial port is much preferrable since with the keybord you need to make sure the cursor is in the proper field, etc; whereas a serial port can be read totally behind the scenes--data can be directly input to a table, and a user can do his other manual data entry simultaneously, without having to keep moving the curor back and forth.<br>--Jim
