I have an Ultra 10 with Ide drives, I get a message that a block is defective.

How do you fix this as most format features don't seem to work on ide drives. Format keeps telling me I need to use the software from the manufacturer.

Take a look at the following man pages:

man fdisk
man diskscan
man addbadsec

I have never run these command.. But, it looks like what you are asking for...

I can't seem to find diskscan. Solaris 9 has a man page for it but I can't seem to find the actual program

Doing a find / -name diskscan -print gave me nothing.

Dandan123,
You are right... Should of tried that to find the apps myself before posting it... It appears that the fdisk, diskscan and addbadsec are for the Solaris x86 OS... The only other thing I could find on the web was someone stating that it would be easier for you to remove your hard drive and put it on a PC to run format, Again, I have never done it... Don't know how scandisk will take to a Unix File System... I would think it would choke or corrupt your file system.

Is it a superblock error can you post the error?

I have since re-installed Solaris and I'm not getting the error anymore.
