I think I have this right!
You have to have IIS 4.0 installed on the same server as Exchange 5.5 in order to use CHAP authentication for OWA users.
I also have documentation stating that if your going to use public folders then you don't want CHAP becuase Exchange 5.5 uses self registration to permit anonynous users to post to public folders.
Question? If your not going to grant Anonymous access to public folders but want authenticated users to be able to access public folders can you CHAP provided that IIS and Exhange 5.5 are on the same server?
Does anyone know if the newer verisions of AOL would have problems with CHAP.
If you can't use CHAP can you use SSL in addition to usinge Basic Authentication (which doesn't encrypt passwords)? Will SSl encrypt the clear text passwords used with Basic Authentication?
Any idea if AOL users would have problems with SSL?
I understand SSl increases CPU/bandwidt and therefore slower. Can you apply SSl authentication in IIS just for users using OWA or must it be applied to the entire website?Thank you in advance for your time.
