How do I view console history

Hello All,

Have a bit of experience with Novell, however its been a while since I had to support the environment. My question hopefully is a simple one. I need to be able to see some of the console messages which have scrolled beyond the screen. Is there a command which lets me view the console history?

If conlog.nlm is loaded, then the messages are stored in a file. If not, load conlog.nlm. When you need to view the log, you must first unload conlog (to close the file), then look in the SYS:\ETC directory for console.log.

I typically rename it, then reload conlog.nlm to start the log again. I also typically put the load conlog line in the autoexec.ncf of the server so it loads on boot up by default.

Add the following line into the AUTOEXEC.NCF, preferably as the first command that loads after the server name and Server ID have been set:

LOAD CONLOG FILE=SYS:SYSTEM\CONSOLE.LOG SAVE=SYS:SYSTEM\CONSOLE.OLD MAXIMUM=2500 ENTIRE=YES

This loads CONLOG.NLM with the following parameters:

FILE - this defines the filename that the log will be written to

SAVE - when the server reboots and CONLOG loads again, if it finds an existing CONSOLE.LOG, it renames it to CONSOLE.OLD (ideal if the server crashed)

MAXIMUM - sets the size of the log. 2500 is 2.5Mb

ENTIRE - saves the entire Console log, basically everything that occurs on the console
