Hi there,

I have a windows server 2003 system and I keep getting errors in the event log from AppleTalk. Since all the computers on the domain are windows boxes and we have no plans ever to need it to communicate with a Mac my question simply is:

Can anyone tell me how to stop/ turn off/ remove AppleTalk?

Thanks very much for any help.

M

If it is in the network protocols, you can remove it...
but it's odd that it's there !!!

check on and make sure your logs are pulling your log leg

Ahh ok so it's device related not a seperate application! Thanks for that I'll go look in that area.

Yes it's very odd that it is there at all but when you inherit a server that has been set up by someone else then who knows what is set up on it? :-(

its a protocol like ipx/spx or Tcp/ip on the network card

Ok I've gone and taken a look at the server and I'm very confused now.

The AppleTalk protocol is not shown as installed or enabled on either of the network adapters. Also when I go to the list of protocols that may be installed then it doesn't appear on that list either.

The event that applears in the log is event 15 - This appears to be complaining about it not having a default adapter. Not sure if that means anything helpful though.

eventid suggestion:
If you, do not use a Macintosh in your network, you can get rid of this message in the following way:
1. Go to Control Panel -> Add/remove programs -> Windows Components -> other network and print services, and remove both AppleTalk services (file sharing and print), then reboot.
2. Go to Control Panel -> Network and dialup -> <your connection> -> properties and from the components window remove the AppleTalk services.

have you tried this?

Yep I tried this Aftertaf - it's really getting weird.

The FSM and PSM* were not installed and there is nothing on the network conection that refures to the appletalk - but every reboot there is the error.

So we installed the FSM and the PSM and after the reboot the services are runing but the same error is there and there is still no option of the appletalk protocol on the adapters. So we then uninstalled them and got back exactly where we were.

I'm really lost

*FSM and PSM are File and Print Services for Machintosh

i agree, weird!

on the offchance, fsm & psm haven't been enabled anywhere on clients on your network??

tbbh (to be brutally honest) i don't know much specifically about appletalk..., but i know that ist's not (pom, pom, pom...)
[bad joke being in France...]
