How can I log or track users when they create, modify etc. files...Is there a utility in netware 5.1 SP7? We want to be able to know who, when they made changes to certain files.
Any help greatly appreciated.

5 i think is was still auditcon - although it may have used naas (think that's the mname)

remeber auditing kicks **** out of stuff and personally i think a waste of time as no one reads log files anyway

looks like I run it from workstation...How does it affect server utilization? Do I "enable volume auditing" first?

Management is looking for accountability...They want to be able to track changes in the event someone maliciously alters data...

You use Auditcon.. but man, be careful. Don't try to do too much with it till you figure it out. It's not very user friendly. And if you log everything, you're going to fill up your server volumes fast. And the logs aren't in nice little reports. You gotta sift through everythign till you find what you want.

As an alternate, newer Netware can run Novell's newest auditing product called Nsure Audit. Haven't used it personally but from what I've seen and heard, it's great.

Thanks for the info...Do you know anything about Windows capability??? This might be our oportunity for updating to Windows server???

And that will be your downfall, upgrading to a Windows server.

I am the only NetAdmin, I don't know a thing about Netware nor can I locate resources...I'm more familiar with Windows...

I will admit, this has been a good source and will continue to use it...Our company probably won't upgrade to Windows, their to cheap...So as long as I continue here, Novell will still be here...

Have you ever had problems upgrading Novell JVM??? I'm in the process of upgrading BrightStor r 11.1 which requires JVM ver. 1.2...
