How do i tell how much traffic is going to my secondary dns server?

I don’t think much traffic goes to your secondary from clients. The only interaction is between the secondary and the primary. The secondary will query the primary for a zone transfer to update its record and to make sure that its record are synchronised with that of the primary.

It is only when the primary goes down that the secondary takes over also for a set period of time while you get the primary working.

Depending on the setup, you could put a network sniffer next to the secondary DNs and just listen to what goes thru.
