Hello everyone,

I have a database, protected with a password, which a lot of people have access to. The only problem is that I don't want people to be able to link to tables in my database, from other MS Access databases. However, I can't think of a way to do this, keeping in mind that I have to give everyone the password.

Is there a way to stop link tables being established into a database?

Have you tried making them hidden? If you give them new names, or don't distribute the names of the tables you make from now on, and make them hidden, other users should not be able to see them just by using the standard "link" method using the Access menu. And if they don't see them, and don't know the names, you're probably good to go.

Is there a reason you can't keep those table in *another* data base, don't give out the password for it, and link to it yourself?

I know all this sounds like a lot of band-aids on a knife wound, but it sounds like you've got management rules that defeat the purpose of software security.

Calian has at least one thought which is "appropiate" - regardless of the other issues. If it is a multiuser db, the tables SHOULD be seperated from the remainder. And, If you place the 'real' tables in another db and use links in the "database" part of your app, users cannot usually create 'links' to these links.

On the other hand, this will deffinitly slow down the app.
