my cpu is:
450 amd and a 1 gig amd
my os is win 98
I have single user mcafee at home. that program insists on using task scheduler to:
1. Go to mcafee site and check for updates, then notify me that updates are available ... every 5 minutes!!!!
2. time automatic updates.
Item 2 can be turned off successfully. Item 1 cannot be turned permanently. each time I start the cpu, mcafee reinserts the subroutine into task scheduler and starts task scheduler all over.
when doing item 1, then mcafee slows down the internet, and often freezes the internet use.
the only thing I can do is to delete the item in task scheduler, then turn off task scheduler. I do this each time I start my cpu. While I am able to do this, my children cannot ... I encourage them to use the internet, and the constant freeze up is not good for them nor for me.
I have been to mcafee help chat ( standard help desk ) 7 times ... total about 2 1/2 hours. I have had the SAME scripted response each time, and finally got a supervisor to set up a chat with a real software person ... who then wanted to charge me $95 for a 20 minute chat --- about the problem their program causes.
with the help chat, I have tried regedit, msconfig, turn off properties under task scheduler,
NOTHING WORKS !!. mcafee insists on using ms task scheduler each time the program starts. IF I disable the agent under regedit and config, then when I start the program to go online, the mcafee program restarts the task scheduler subroutine and reinserts the mcafee task.
how do I stop this -- short of going to Norton?
