I know how to set up IIS to host mulitple sites on with only one IP using host headers. But how can I set up mutliple FTP sites without using nonstandard port numbers? Is there a feature comparable to using host headers for websites for FTP sites?

An example would be large Webhosts who setup their servers so that on a server with say 50 sites, allows each user to FTP to the server and only see the one directory they have given them.

Thanks for any suggestions

There's no comparable FTP alternative to host headers. What you need to do is create multiple local users in the FTP server's account database. Create each one a directory in the \ftproot, set it up in their profile as their home directory, and set permissions on each directory. The home directory can really be anywhere on the server, and could be a directory that's also being used to host .html pages and whatnot.

So, to summarize: there would only be one ftp sitename, but each user would be dumped into a private directory. Alternatively, you could create all sorts of CNAME records in your dns that point to the same IP address of your ftp site, that way you could actually give each user his/her own 'address' but they'd all be virtual names pointed at the same destination.
