I have a small problem that I need to overcome. I want to remove a service from system services.

the service I am trying to remove is an arcserve service called "Arcserve Discovery Service". This is because I am trying to install Arc Serve 2000 under NT4.0. When the program is installing and tries to start the service. I get an error saying that the service failed and could not be started.

I was advised by Arc Serve Support to type in "asdscsvc -remove" then type in "asdscsvc -install". This was supposed to remove and re-install the service to allow my install to continue and start the Arcserve discovery service.

This command is not working, is there another way to remove services?

I set the service to manual and checked the properties to see permissions but doesnºt help changing options.

Any advise?

Not to divert what you are trying to do, but what is the error you are getting starting up the service? I ask this because you may have a permissions problem with the ARCserve home directory and may actually be uninstalling and reinstalling, not changing the cause of why the service will not start.

Can anybody figure out how to start the ARCserve Discovery service? My NOTES job will not go through unless this is started. When I try to start the service through control panel, an error message of "Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion".
Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

hey Jo,

When you goto the service, which service do you find marked for deletion. The Discovery service is purely going to be used for discovery remote machines on the network. When a service shows up as marked for deletion, the server needs to be restarted for that to be cleared up.
