I have a small IBM computer with windows 95 that has become very sluggish and the screen freezes up a lot. What steps do I take to refromat the Hard drive? [sig][/sig]
GTO is right formatting the drive is the last resort.
When was the last time you cleaned out all the TEMP files from your system. These include the INTERNET TEMP FILES as well as the Windows Temp files. A good program to do this for you is Clean Start v2.8. it is available as Shareware from places like ZDNet.
It is also good to run SCANDISK and DEFRAG every week. This clean out the system like giving it a dose of EPSOM Salts.
It keeps the system running at its optimum.
So try cleaning out first, if it is still slow it may be that RAM has developed a fault. This is also a fair reason for slow systems.
Hope this is of some help.
