As the title suggested. hopefully, I asked this question in the right forum

I have a network setup at work... it's got only 1 domain controller responsible for Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc...

The gateway at my work is 192.168.16.254 ... i try to access it from firefox, but nobody remembers the username/password... so I'm kinda screwed with that...

Anyhoo.. i'm tryin to get port forward working because we need to use bittorrent... and although I'm very familiar with port forwarding on ICS and any given router... but somehow, within a domain, I'm not sure how I can set port forwarding...

any help would be much appreciated!

Have you tried the default password? Have you RESET the router?

Port forwarding has nothing to do with domains, so forget that thought. You need to forward on your router - unless you're router is the Windows server, then you'll want to reference and look up your router and instructions for the application on what ports to forward.

yeah.. there's no router in this setup here...
it's weird.. there's just the DSL modem and a 16 port switch.
So, I'm assuming the Windows server is responsible for port forwarding...
I just need to find or create the NAT table... if you say that the domain settings have nothing to do with port forwarding, then where do I look? I tried the "Routing and Remote Access" manager under "Administrative Tools"... but couldn't get that to work either

What's the IP Address of the gateway and what are the IP Address(es) of the server? If the gateway address does not match at least one of the server addresses, then the server is NOT acting as the gateway.

The gateway at my work is 192.168.16.254
What device does this address refer to. I take a gateway to indicate some sort of router. I'm confused as to how you are running an internal LAN that accesses the Internet without a router in the mix somewhere.

Is the DC dual homed and acting as a router?

Sorry for stepping on your reply lwcomputing. Must have been posting around the same time.

I'm not sure... that's what i've been tryin to figure out.
This whole network setup was done by someone that worked here years ago... there's been several other IT works that worked here too, but I don't think they did anything about it.
Hence, i'm the go to guy now to try to figure all this out.

But I know for sure that there's no router in this office... like I said.. just the dsl modem and a switch
Server (DNS, DHCP) IP: 192.168.0.4
Gateway IP: 192.168.0.254

Download a program, like Look@Lan ( It should give you an idea of what devices are on your network. I'm curious as to what 192.168.0.254 is. Also, you referred to 192.168.16.254 in an earlier post. Was this a typo or another device?

You also said you tried to access the gateway through a browser but didn't know the password. That indicates that at least a page came up. Does anything on that page give any hint as to what device is serving as your gateway?

From your post, it does not appear that the server is acting as a router.

I will try that program out.. cuz i'm curious as hell too and it's bugging the crap out of me.

I did refer 192.168.16.254 in an earlier post and it's the same device that i'm talkin about...

When i try to access 192.168.16.254 from the browser, it only gives me the name of the machine "Viking" which i have no idea what it is

You can try using NMAP ( to analyze 192.168.16.254. It's extremely useful for getting a good start at identifying hardware (or at least identifying what software is running on said hardware).
