How can I use my domain administrator account to take ownership of the local security settings. By having access denied, I am unable to install service pack 3. Must be some easy answer. Thanks.

IF the computer is part of the domain, the Domain Admins are included in the LOcal Administrators Group.
Are you sure that computer is part of your domain?
To Take ownership of the resource, you go to the Advanced Button, in the Security TAb once you go to its properties. A+, MCP, CCNA

Thanks koquito,
Perhaps something changed with the local Administrator--When I took it back to workgroup, the password that I thought it was didn't work. Also policies I can't get to only allow three logon attempts, and then logs on all users. Is it a case of copying a file into the domain admin acct. settings? Or copying the domain admin into to the local admin? Any thoughts? Anybody?

IF the computer is disjoined from the domain, and that is teh case since you broght it to a workgroup, then those domain account no lonnger work..YOu need to use a local Account. A+, MCP, CCNA

Hope I can get it now. Reset the password in user manager, so now should be able to get the local administrator accoount. Will have to try off hours. Thanks.
