I am trying to insert an image into the beginning of a 60-page document with images throughout the remainder of the layout. When i do this, the text moves down to make room for the new image, and the remaining layout is altered, moving the text down while the images stay in the same place and no longer go with the text. Any ideas on how to link your text to your pictures and make the pictures move with the text?

You need to anchor the picture to the text. Use the pointer tool to select the picture, copy. Then change to the text tool and put your cursor where you want the picture and paste. You will need to use indents and tabs to get the text where you want. Once the picture is embedded, use the two icons on the very left of the measurements palette, selecting the picture with the pointer tool and then trying both of those buttons. Then use baseline shift if needed.

Another reason your picture is making the text move is because it has runaround applied. If you don't want to anchor the pictures you can make a separate text box with each picture, turn runaround off and group them together. However, they won't move when you insert new text. The only way to keep things flowing is to anchor everything into one text box that is linked page to page. Hope this helps.
