Hello. This morning I turned on my computer and when it was booting up, right after the "Windows is Starting Up" screen, it switched to a blue error screen that said:


Windows has detected an error and and has sut down
BAD_POOL_CALLER

Hit f8 to enter safe mode.
If problem continues, inistall any recently installed hardware or software.
(further down it said stop 0x0000000C2)

I don't have a clue what I am doing, but I did restart in safe mode as it said to. Of course this didn't work because when I reached the "windows is starting" screen again, the same error message keeps coming up. How do I uninstall any recently installed hardware? The only way I know how to uninstall is through the device manger or control panel within windows which I can't get to since Windows won't start. I haven't installed any hardware to my computer. The only things I have hooked up to my computer is an HP printer and a Canon scanner. The canon scanner has given me problems in the past with it's drivers, so maybe that could be it. Any suggestions on how I can fix this problem?

Try starting in Safe Mode and choose the "Last Known Good Configuration" option and see if that gets you into XP.

While heading into Safe Mode, if it offers you an option to attempt System Restore try that too.

If no luck post back with full error message (including parameters) as this may help indicate the driver or service causing the problem. Let's hope the above fixes it for you.

Hi Linney. Thanks so much for replying. I tried to reboot as you suggested in safe mode using the last known working configuration. Unfortunately, I still get the error screen once the Welcome screen comes up. I didn't see the option for system restore, but maybe I over looked it. Below is the remainder of the error message that I left out from my previous post:

Fot BIOS, ussually you press the Del key at startup, depends the bios.
Go through the mnu's for RAM settings. The solution is out there.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

I'm trying to use Recovery Console from my XP Pro upgrade disk. Anyway, to get into the recovery console, it first asks me to enter my administrator password. I honestly don't remember ever having an administrator password!? I tried just hitting enter, but that didn't work. Is there a default password that can be used or a way for me to reset the password, or am I basically out of luck? Thanks for any advice!

You will need to use the setup boot disks from MS. See here:

I apologize for my ignorance. I went to the line suggested above, but I still have question. Do I need to download the boot disks, or the service pack 1 to fix my inability to log into Recovery console? Also, if I do need to download the service pack, I am going to have to have a friend download it and burn it to a CD for me. If this is the case, how would I install it? Would I install it from the command prompt at the Recovery Console screen?

NO, SP1 installs from within XP.
You have to recover XP first, one way or the other.
Get the bootdisks as suggested earlier. The solution is out there.
