Hello,

I know that I saw the answer to this question posted here a month or so ago. I have been looking but now that I acutally need the info I can't find it. I an thinking that I should be able to go to "Start - Run" and type something and it will tell me my IP address. The question is what should I type in??

Thanks

either open up a dos window and type "ipconfig" or, go to start > run > "Winipcfg" in windoze.

I usually just use the dos one, coz ipconfig is easier to member, but maybe not.. Do whatever works.

Hope this helps

how can I find an ip address of a computer if I do not physically go to that pc and I am using dhcp

I usually run netstat at the command prompt to see whose attached to me. I don't know off hand if there is a command that will tell you the ip address of a computer name within a dhcp network. However, the domain controller keeps track of ip leases and the mac addresses they are attached to.

There might be some shareware like neowatch that will let you scan a network and track a user down to the ip, dns, and so forth. But since it is on dhcp, the ip won't "stick" to that computer for very long depending on the lease time.

I've used NeoWatch and NeoTrace to track down individuals sniffing my ports. I've also been able to find ip's to computer names within a dhcp network using NeoTrace.

Hope this is helpful,

On W2K go to command prompt and ipconfig or ipconfig /all
the ipconfig /all will give you more info including MAC address of the NIC in that PC.
