I have a Win98 system in which I always get the boot menu that allows me to select Win98 normal startup, logged, command-line, or safe mode startup.

I have another system which is a triple boot system in which I would like to enable the 'always on' boot menu when the system boots into Win98 so that I don't have to jump on F8 to enable safe mode startup in Win98.

The problem is, I can't remember how I enabled the 'always on' Win98 startup menu.

Does anyone out there remember how to do this?

From Windows98, remove the read only attribute from the file C:\MSDOS.SYS and add BootMenu=1 under the Options section. Save file, restore read only attribute, and you should have your menu once you reboot.

Glad it worked for you! I should perhaps also have mentioned the other options available.

BootMenuDelay=12
BootMenuDefault=2

The first one alters the default 30 second (maximum) delay down to 12 seconds, or whatever number of seconds you want.

The second one sets the default selected menu option, so you can have it default to any one of the 6 available.

Good luck!
