I have a customer with a companion system with two antennas I believe this gives him 4 chanels. He requires more handsets. is there some limiting factor on how many 3060 sets that can be activated? How do i determine how many will connect to his system as it is configured.

Thank you

Joe,

No sense in having more sets than can actively use the channel capacity on a base station. So four sets would be your max. You may add more channels to a node by placing another base station within three feet of one of the others and re-evaluating the system. That will increase your channel capacity at that location.

How is your system configured? Usually for XC2 and up, base stations may be direct connected to any port. Hand sets will still only work in the 600 DN range. If you are working with an adjunct, pretty much the same rules apply, but you will need the corresponding number of '500' trunk ports in it from your host PBX.

The maximum number of portable DN's on an XC system is 60.
30 DN's are identified for Companion by default.
30 DN's are identified for ISDN terminals and these can be configured as portable DN's for a total of 60.

i realize that there are only 2 chanels per antenna .there only 3 or 4 trunks on his whole system, but they are seldom all busy. he has some staff that move around the shop all day and get calls from supliers and . The customer has just hired another guy who also won't have a desk and will need a mobile phone. At this time trunking is not a problem . Is there any restriction of how many 3060 hand sets that may be connected to the system ?

This was installed about a month befor nortel announced they were going to discontinue companions.
That was about three years ago and i haven't looked at it since.

It is the only one in the area and i've forgotten just about everything I new about them.
( I WISH i had a COMPANION to play with!! )
this is starting to sound like a letter to DEAR ABBY.

I hope he still has some documentation on site . Does anyone know where there might be some online .

thank you aragon

i have found a handset to buy, now i hope i can remember how to activate it on the system.

he may require another antenna as well. what is the proceedure to install andactivate that?
Its been a really long time. and i only did it once before.

Thanks
Joelunchpail

If you are asking about installing another base station then simply connect the base station to a supported station port and perform a re-eval after the system recognizes the base.

As for the handset
System ADD
password = radio
key in either DN or line number depending on type of companion controller.

thank you again aragon

now i just have to wait for my parts to arrive.
