Hi

We've had a problem with our information store due to a hardware failure and the priv.edb file has ballooned to 85Gb. All the relevant data has been extracted to .pst files so the users can carry on as normal.

I now need to delete the priv.edb file and create a new blank one. On a test machine I renamed the x:\exchsrvr\mdbdata file and then created a new mdbdata file and started the Informatin Store service. This created new pub and priv files without any trouble. I attemtped the procedure a couple of subsequent times and again it worked well. Howvever, since then I've not been able to get it to work so I'm slightly wary of doing it on the actual exchange server. Am I following the correct procedure?

Cheers

I believe that if you stop the services and delete the files you can restart the services and the files will be created.

But I've never tried it!

85GB is a record in this forum as far as I know - way to go!

Thanks for that mate. Just to let you know the background. We have an external RAID 5 box with 220GB of space for the information store. One of the disks failed and although the RAID built itself again there were obviously problems as the store.exe process started running at 100% CPU and the priv.edb file just started to expand. The total size of the mailboxes is only about 17GB. After monitoring the expansion of the priv.edb file it is actually growing at 600MB per hour - Yes PER HOUR!. Like I sayt, all the users are working off .pst files now so it's just a matter of getting a new priv.edb file so we can copy all the data back to it.

Just to let you know the priv.edb is currently 89GB.

Cheers
