How do I create a restore cd? I want it in case of a needed restore to my new system.

I just want it to install the operation system and all my hardware device drivers. I know about "ghost", but I'm wondering how to make a restore CD - like the one's you get with an HP or Compaq system.

Thanks

1st read up on the readme and help files that comes with what I use, Norton Ghost. This will tell you how to script ghost from the command prompt to do what you want. Then write this script into a file named autoexec.bat on your PC, save the file anywhere except C:\autoexec.bat. Now make a bootable floppy and create a config.sys file with your CDROM drivers, copy the autoexec.bat file with ghost commands also include the mscdex.exe line to load the CDROM drive letter. Now go into your CDRW software and in there (i'm not sure which one you're using!) there should be an option to make a new bootable CD. The CDRW software then should ask for a boot floppy to make a boot floppy image onto the CD. now copy the HDD image to the CD job remembering to create a directory structure that is identical to the ones you have specified in your autoexec.bat. I.E.
Autoexec.bat:
x:\ghost\ghostpe /blah blah options for image restoration.
CD job should have ghostpe in a folder called ghost.

etc..
Now make the CD and see if it works by putting it onto another blank Hard drive, NOT the one you are currently using as it might go wrong a few times before you get it right.

do the image on a new install of the operating
system before you install all the goodies you have
collected over the years. the image will be smaller
and easier to restore. also try to find "barts bootable
cd" on the web for a kickass dos program to build
bootable cds. you will find more info on the boot
creation than you probably need.
