My son sends me an Invitation and I accept. I am able to see his computer screens but not control the keyboard. The Connection Status appears as "Screen View Only." So apparently I am missing a step somewhere. Can someone help me as this is the first attempt to use Remote Assistance.

Thank You

Your son needs to allow you to take control of the keyboard and mouse, its set in the Connection settings when he creates the Invitation.

with that done, there should be a button on your remote assistance scree that says: "Take Control " click it to take over control of his computer.

Here's a guide with pics to make it easy to follow:

Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

I currently have my son's PC sitting on my desk, right next to my PC. It is ideal for testing the use of Remote Assistance. I have gone to System Properties on both computers, clicking on the Remote tab. Under "Remote Assistance" there is a check mark in front of the option to Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer.

I am able to follow the procedure through the point where I sent the invitation from my son's compter to my computer. But I just don't see where I give permission to take control. So I always end up with only the ability to see the screens.

Where am I missing it?

From your son's computer go to the Remote Assistance Tab in system Properties:

click on the Advanced Tab, and check the "Allow this computer to be controlled Remotely"

Once that is done, you can start the Remote Assistance Session.

You should then have the little "Take control" button in your Remote assistance window in your computer.

Actually, I had previously come upon the System Property screens and they are setup as you suggest. Still, after I get connected it is in View Only mode and I never see the button to Take Control. I've also temporarily turned off the AntiVirus software and that did not help.

Strange, I guess it could be a Group Policy or something like that.

Perhaps the registry edit suggested in Linney's firs Link may be useful.

As with all registry modifications, Backup your registry before attempting it though.

I found the solution to my problem. Thank you to all who helped me!!! After connecting, I had been unable to find the "Take Control" button on the cluttered screen. Then I read in one of the help files that was sent to me that I should look in the top left hand corner of the screen. And there it was on a tools bar. I don't know why I did not see it before. I guess I had been looking for a button floating within the body of the screen.

Glad you sorted it out.
