We are not getting any incoming emails, we can send out going ones, but do not get incoming.

we have switched isp's, so the MX records are supposed to have been changed, yet they still do not come in.

I thought I had configured the router and the firewall right, but still nothing. how do I find the blockage?

Thanks that is most helpful all of you.

Kind regards
Rob

Still no emails, I do not know what to check next, please someone pointme in some sort of direction

Try telnetting into the IP address on port 25 (SMTP listener port) listed in your MX record from outside your network (ie. the internet) and see if you can connect to your mail server.

It will be a lot easier to help if you post your domain name.

Chris.

Hi, i don't really want to post our domain name onto here, but if someone would let me email it to them, that would be very kind.

If it helps, i am being told by our ISP, that they can't do a telnet thing to our server on port 25. They are claiming that our server is not on line, but surely if that were the case, we would not be able to email out, which we can.

I think it is our ISP's problem.

our router is set to port forward on port 25 straight to our firewall, which I presume would then forward straight to our email server, as the firewall is not blocking emails as far as our firewll company tell us. or does that not necessarily follow as fact?

kind regards

Rob

Never assume!
"As far as they tell you" ... have them prove it to you.

Sounds like some path is broken, or... the return does not compute.
It may be open all the way to the server, that is, router forwards port 25 to the firewall and the firewall forwards to the server.
But, if the return is not routed well, it will look as if it is not there. Wrong gateways ?

Also, the firewall port may be open, but is it not blocking any protocols?

And you are right not to post your domain name.
If your ISP can do the test for you, use them.

If you email me the details I'll take a look.

Also, if you are port forwarding port 25 to your firewall, what makes you think that the firewall will accept that connection. Maybe the firewall is set up to allow port 25 TO the mail server but it won't accept connections to itself on that port.

OK guys, thanks for all your help. If you are interrested, the problem was with our new ISP, they block port 25 by default, and our reseller had not known about it.

The port is now unblocked, and our emails are coming in thick and fast. We have however lost a weeks worth of emails which is a shame.

But we live and learn.

Thanks again
Rob

Who can you trust, the ISP first tells you the telnet test fails, now it turns out it's their own doing !! That's funny, weel, not so for you, I meant it sarcastic ;-)

I know, I am currently looking for a better ISP, a reputable one who work 24/7 to get stuff done, any recommendations?

Sorry, I am not in USA, so I cannot recommend.

o, well, I'm from BE, so still no help for you on that part, sorry.
