Currently, I am using WinXP on my PC. I want to upgrade to WinXP Pro . How can I do this ? Do I just install over the existing O/S ? Does it impact existing programs in the hard drive ? Thanks.

Notebook?

If using a notebook, there is a feeling that a clean installation of XP Pro would be preferred to an upgrade.

If a desktop, the Retail XP Pro upgrade should handle this issue without a lot of trauma.

Thanks, bcastner . I have the full version of WinXP pro, not the upgrade version. Do I still need a clean reinstallation for the desktop PC ? BTW, I plan to use WinXP Pro on both the laptop and desktop PC. Please comment.

Best regards,

Your license likely prevents you installing the same XP Pro CD copy on both laptop and desktop machines.

Boot from the XP Pro CD, it will give you an upgrade option from your existing XP Home version whether desktop or laptop.

Whether you choose an upgrade or a clean install is up to you.
