How Can I transform Workgroup in a Domain

I installed my server as a member of Workgroup. How can I transform it in a Domain controller. For just to validade my users and their permissions.

Elias - you need to run the command DCPROMO (from start->run). This is a big change from running a workgroup, however.

You're running windows 2000 server?

yes I am using Windows 2000 Server.

DCPROMO should do it then. Make sure you set up adequate backup for your active directory environment if you dont want to have to recreate everything if your server dies.

I had that to format this Server. I don´t have anything for backup. My question is: I don´t use DNS in this computer no DCPROMO I have to put mydomain.xxx.xx in the old server I had just mydomain.

Sorry, can you explain that a little more clearly? I don't understand what you're asking.

ok. This is a new server. I don´t have others servers in my company. My old server Got virus. I had to format this.
In my old server my domain name was "mycompany"
I don´t use DNS , IIS I just wish validate my users and permissions.
How can I configure the name of my domain as "mycompany"

DCPROMO will ask for a domain name as part of the setup process.
