For unknown reasons, the item "Desktop (Create Shortcut)" in the context menu "SendTo" in my Win98 SE system disappeared ! I tried to re-install it by using "SendToX v1.2" but the utility did not aparently have this feature !! Instead, it has " Mail " features among others ... Please give instructions on how to regain the "Desktop (Create Shortcut)" .

Thank you...

Open the Sendto Folder. Right click on an empty space and choose New> Text Document
Name it
Desktop as Shortcut.DESKLINK

Hello, zaidulon.

This is a bit difficult. So I rely on the wisdom accumulated and collected by others. I take this from :

where you find a collection of registry fix.

The one that is for your case is SendtoDesktop.zip. The content of which I paste below in .reg format.

;---below this line----
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DeskLink]
@="CLSID\\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}]
"NeverShowExt"=""
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\InProcServer32]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM\\SENDMAIL.DLL"
"ThreadingModel"="Apartment"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\DefaultIcon]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\explorer.exe,-103"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}\shellex\DropHandler]
@="{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}"

Do it slightly more carefully this time and export the existing keys as a backup before importing the above just in case.

Also, take a look at your c:\windows\SendTo folder see if you have still an signature icon there called "Desktop (create shortcut)"

Hi again.
I think it depends on the actual problem. You say the shorcut has disappeared. You need to recreate it using the Method in my post. If after you have created it, it doesn't work, then you will need to apply the registry fix in
tsuji's post. Good Luck.

Thanks Mosaic1 and Tsuji for these superb fixes!

Mosaic1's method indeed produced the "Desktop (Create Shortcut )" in the <SendTo> folder ! However, I could not confirm whether this method actually worked as I tried Tsuji's registry fix first ! Hopefully , I can report on Mosaic1's technique if the occasion arises later... For now, I'm just deliriously happy to celebrate the stunnning achievement of our two in-house masters : Mosaic1 and Tsuji..

Thank you...
