How can I prevent text from being auto-formatted into symbols in excel

I have a spreadsheet that I am trying to type "(C)" into but every time I try that it auto formats to the copyright symbol. Any ideas???

Either delete the entry from AutoCorrect (Tools > AutoCorrect) or redefine it (e.g., I place a backslash in front -- \(c).

Select Tools, then choose AutoCorrect.

Excel will show you a list of which letters are autocorrected to symbols. Select the (c) and click the remove button.
