hi all,

i would like to know if there is a software which i can use and it will tell me which ports my machine is using and what is using those ports and also which ports are open.

please help.

Well, a good starting point is to type 'netstat -a' at a command line. That will show you all currently listening and active ports. Then go to to find out the significance of each port.

There are other tools out there, but there's nothing like that warm lazy feeling you get from using what you have in front of you.

A copy of Commview is VERY useful. It's a client side network analyser thats much more friendly than NETSTAT.... downside u have 2 pay for it.. although it's only a few $ to buy.
To check the ports on your machine you could use YAPS (yet another port scanner) which has proved to be an EXCELLENT piece of software.
