My boss came into my office and created a workbook on my computer. He then had me link worksheets from other workbooks to it. I linked about 15 other workbooks to this new workbook. Dummy me... I forgot to note the name of the workbook my boss created, now he's not around to ask. I need to open the workbook now, and can't find it. If I know the locations of the worksheets that I put into this new workbook, how can I go through them to find the lost workbook?

Is it still on the recently opened files list on the File menu? Jessica [ponytails2]

No I'm afaid not. I have since opened up lots and lots of files. I've tried that already and also looking in the history to find it with no luck.

Well, I suppose, if you have some idea of the drive it's on... you can do a search for files & folders & then click *.xls as the filename and enter some of the text it contains in the contains box. Jessica [ponytails2]

Only suggestion I have is to do a search in your default Excel file folder for any .XLS files that have been created or modified within the last 1 day (2 days?). Then open each one. Tedious, but not as bad as a month from now.

If you don't find it there, you will need to look at any shared drives you have as well, as your boss may have created the workbook somewhere else.

Jessica's right, but you don't NEED to enter text in the "contains" box, just in case you thought you had to.

Do that search and look through the list that comes up. Make sure you're viewing details, so go to View on the menu and choose Details. Look at the dates, etc. That should help you narrow down your search. Anne Troy
