I've used Fireworks MX to build several sites with popup menus and I'm fairly familiar with the code. Unfortunately, as the entire layer is built using javascript, I can get a bit lost.

Basically, I wanted to know if I could modify the opacity of these popup menus using CSS styles. And if anyone has done this, where (in Macromedia's standard code dump) should I modify my Javascript?

Thanks,

first off you need to import this into DW to apply any styles or do it by hand coding...secondly opacity is IE only compatible right now (maybe im wrong)

thirdly dont use fireworks for popups use layers and the hide and show behaviors in DW to make popups. they look nicer

Thanks deecee, but I have some basic reasons for using fireworks to build the popups -- even though I use DW to build the rest of the site. Basically, I just borrow the code that fireworks spits out -- and that's the problem. I know how to modify that JavaScript to an extent, but some of it is a bit advanced - lots of variables, modifyers, if statements, etc.

I would build my own layers and use show/hide, but I don't know an easy way to move them dynamically as the site flexes. With a basic layer, the location is relative to the upper-left corner, which would force a static site.

If you know an easier way to dynamically relocate layers with respect to their trigger elements, that would be helpful.

In any case, thanks for the response.

ya go to and download the snap layers extension and then the layers will move relative to a certain ID on the page. prolly the best extension i have
