Hosting E-mail server with Exchange 2003

I am trying to host my own E-mail server with Exchange 2003. I have installed Exchange 2003 and went through with all the deployment preps. What is the next step to setting up the Exchange 2003 server? If anyone can point me to a tutorial link or another post that'll be extremely helpful.

ill do a full tut for you this sunday after noon, all you need is to follow it iam new to exchange2003 but so far everything works. didyou run /forest prep and then /domainprep

1)ok stick exchange cd in drive
2) start-->run--->cmd
3)e: to go to your cd if its e
4) cd setup
5) e:setup>cd i386
6) e:setup\i386>setup /forestprep
then you get a gui and it should say forestprep in drop down window next too microsoft exchange

7) select messaging and microsoft exchange sys tool
next
8)when that finished do for domainprep.
after that run Run ORGPREPCHECK at a command prompt

drive Letter:\support\exdeploy\exdeploy.exe /gc:global catalog server name /trgprepcheck
view :\EXDEPLOY LOGS see if both domain and forest prep have installed correctly.

after that just install exchange, one you do that ill finish of the tut.

ORGPREPCHECK come with your cd or you can download it from ms

install IIS, NNTP, and SMTP.

install latest service pack for OS

e:\i386\setup /forestprep

when that's finished
e:\i386\setup /domainprep

then
e:\i386\setup

You only need to run orgprepcheck if you don't get a 'successfull' message after /forestprep and after /domainprep

thanks for the help...i have a registered domain name...i install everything already. what's then next step?

Let me clarified what I did. I installed Exchange 03 enterprise with all the necessary services (IIS, NNTP, SMTP). I went through the domain prep and forest prep also. The Exchnage server gets the schema from another Active Directory server. The local domain on the DC is a .com, and my registered domain name is a .net and they are completely different name. Do I have to change the domain name on the DC? Thanks you guys for all the help so far...I appreciate it!

No. You can set what domains the Exchange server will handle in the recipient policy. It doesn't matter what your AD domain name is.

Ok do you have a static ip address from you isp? if so you need to link your registered domain name to your static ip addy, then you need to get your mx record this needs to be created on a public dns server, your hosting company or isp can do this its should befree.

They make 2 records a mx record name of your server.name of domain.com ie "mail.tom.com" and and a record pointing to your ip addy which is also "mail.tom.com".
you need to do these before you finish of the set up of your server.

So you if your server is call john and your domain called bill it would be john.bill.com.

next step on portforward 25 too your server thats gonna host your exchange server. then

start Exchange System Manager ------>Recipient---->Recipient Policies you should see Default Policy on the right side left click get properties then E-Mail Addresses tab then select smtp a policy ie it should be smtp a box next to it with a tick hi-light the domain addy next to it, then select the edit tab then edit the addy @yourdomain.com then save close.

next
the go too servers then the name of your server then open protocols then open smtp then Default SMTP Virtual Server
right click it go to properties select Delivery tab then Advanced then select config then Add then input IP address of a Public DNS Server( you can use your isp dns or the people that gave you your domain) once that is on click ok and ok again then your sever can send and recicve emails now

There's really no need to plug in a DNS setting within ESM. Make sure the server itself is looking at the AD DNS server.
