Hosting 2 domains on Exchange 2000

If I host 2 Domains (i.e. the mx records for domain1 and domain2 both point to my exchange server) and give each user 2 email addresses in their address space then, I assume that any mail addressed to user@domain1 or user@domain2 will get to that user's inbox. Correct?

My question is what happens when the recipient user then hits the 'Reply' button - Does Exchange reply from the user's Default address (e.g. user@domain1) or does Exchange reply from the address to which the email was sent. hopefully - user@domain2?

Or, must the user manually specify his/her return address?

what is the correct way to manage this?

thanks for any help

First thing is to make sure that the domain names for the e-mail address are listed in a Recipient Policy.

After doing that then if both address are added to one mailbox then that mailbox will receive e-mail for either address. However sending will be from the Default address (the one in bold). If you want to be able to send using either address then you'd have to have two separate accounts (as far as I know) and give the user Full Mailbox Access & Send As permission to each account. Then could then use the From field in Outlook to change who they send from.

hope this helps.

Hmmmmm..

I received this post from an MVP.

Thank you.

ACraib or DaShard,

I was going to start a new thread but you are discussing the exact issue that I need help on.

What steps are required to set up a second domain in Exchange 2000?

Is is necessary to have an MX record in DNS and if so, do I create another domain or another zone.

Also, other than the recipient policy, what other settings should I make in system manager?

For the user with 2 email addresses. Will mail get delivered to either address?

Sorry for the basic questions but I'm only moderately experienced in Exchange.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!!
